NAME OF FOOD PLANT - Mussaenda pubescens Aiton (Rubiaceae)
OTHER RECORDED FOOD PLANTS - other Mussaenda spp.
EGG - The egg is greenish in colour and is laid singly on the tip of leaves of its host plant. It measures about 1.0 mm in diameter.
CATERPILLAR / LARVA - The larva will stay on top of leaf and feed on the leaf on which it rests. It grows from about 2.0mm to 3.5cm in length. The larval stage lasts about 30 days.
CHRYSALIS / PUPA - The larva will attach itself to a twig before pupation. The pupa measures about 2.0cm. The adult butterfly will emerge in about 13 days during the summer months.
ADULT - The adult male and female butterfly differs from each other. The butterfly has a swift flight though it is a commonly found around wooded areas throughout Hong Kong.
STATUS - common.
WING SPAN - approx. 5.5 to 6.0 cm.
VOLTINISM - many generations in a year.
FLIGHT PERIOD / TIME OF YEAR - March to November.
