Adult Schefflera octophylla (Lour.) Harms (Araliaceae)   

EGG - Eggs are yellowish in colour and laid in clusters on the underside of leaves of its host plant measuring about 1.2 mm in diameter and 1.0mm in height.

CATERPILLAR / LARVA - Larva will make leaf shelter and grow from about 4mm to 4.5cm in length.

CHRYSALIS / PUPA - The larva will pupate inside the leaf shelter and the adult butterfly will emerge in about 16 days.

ADULT - It is one of the most colourful skippers in Hong Kong. It is medium in size, inactive during the day and tends to fly before sunset. It feeds readily on flowers and prefers to settle on the underside of leaf.

NAME OF FOOD PLANT - Schefflera octophylla (Lour.) Harms (Araliaceae) 

OTHER RECORDED FOOD PLANTS - other Schefflera spp.

LOCATION SIGHTED - throughout Hong Kong. It can also be found within the city limits where its host plant is being planted for ornamental purpose.

STATUS - uncommon.

WING SPAN - approximately 4.0 cm to 4.5cm.

FLIGHT PERIOD / TIME OF YEAR - March to November.
