Female (form achates) Citrus maxima (J. Burman) Merrill (Rutaceae)  

EGG (A) - creamy yellowish in colour when freshly laid, singly on underside of leaves of its host plants, round in shape with smooth surface typical of the Papilionidae family, about 1.3mm in diameter. 

CATERPILLAR/LARVA (B) - young brownish larva to greenish mature larva, feeding most of  the time and resting on top of leaf until time to pupate, 0.3cm to 5.5 cm in length.

CHRYSALIS/PUPA (C) - greenish or brownish pupa of about 4.0 cm hanging on twig or leaf stalk, adult to emerge in about 18 days during summer months.

ADULT - butterfly of many different female forms with females comparatively larger, feeding readily on flowers, common around orchards.

NAME OF FOOD PLANT - Citrus maxima (J. Burman) Merrill (Rutaceae)

OTHER RECORDED FOOD PLANTS - other Citrus spp.

LOCATION SIGHTED - rural areas of Hong Kong.

STATUS - very common.

WING SPAN - approximately 11.0 to 14.0 cm.

VOLTINISM - many generations in a year.

FLIGHT PERIOD / TIME OF YEAR - February to December
