Field Trip on Butterfly Watching
OBJECTIVE
Butterflies are beautiful, free-spirited flying insects and their brilliant colours and strange patterns are beyond description. They represent the glamour of the dancing queens! They provide the feeling of freedom, the extra stamina, the warmth of sunshine
If we enjoy going out into the field on the weekends after a hectic week of working, we can feel the extra space around our natural environment and under our feet. If butterfly watching can be added onto our itineraries while strolling along the countryside, we see, sense and thrill about the beauty of our butterflies. While watching butterflies dancing in their natural habitats can be rewarding, it is also an extremely good way to relax.
Along the trail, we hope to identify the different variety of butterflies found in Hong Kong, their habitats and host plants.
The leaders of the field trip believe that as mature and responsible people, we will not be alone to come forward to conserve butterflies when certain species are endangered. On the other hand, if we keep to ourselves the information of the localities where rare butterflies are found, we will be alone to fight against any possible destruction to their habitats and will eventually deplete the total butterflies population.
TYPE OF WALK generally suitable for all people and will discuss in details when interested.
HLS CODE OF COLLECTING
The Hong Kong Lepidopterists Society believes that by subscribing to a code of collecting, its members or participants in the Societys activities will show themselves to be a concerned and responsible body of naturalists who have a positive contribution to make to the cause of conservation. All Society members or participants are required to accept the Code in principle and to observe it in practice.
