NAME OF HOST PLANT - Maesa japonica (Thb.) Mor. & Zoll. (Myrsinaceae)
OTHER RECORDED HOST PALNTS - Maesa perlarius (Lour.) Merr.
EGG - green yellowish, round in shape covered with feather-like hairs, laid singly on underside of leaves of its host plants, about 0.7 mm in diameter.
CATERPILLAR / LARVA - greenish larva always on underside of leaves of host plants found in the shade.
CHRYSALIS / PUPA - greenish pupa attached to underside of leaves of its host plant, about 1.8cm, adult to emerge in about 14 days during summer months.
ADULT - settle repeatedly after short flights and make turns on leaf even with front pair legs reduced, fond of flowers, quite territorial for male butterfly, no apparent difference between the sexes.
LOCATION SIGHTED - wooded forests in Hong Kong.
STATUS - common.
WING SPAN - approximately 3.5 to 4.0 cm.
VOLTINISM - many generations in a year.
FLIGHT PERIOD / TIME OF YEAR - March to December.
